Statement from Johan Steenberg to the CBR BRAVE

Statement from Johan Steenberg to the CBR BRAVE

Dear CBR BRAVE fans,

It is with mixed emotions that I am writing to inform you that I have decided to return to the Melbourne Ice in 2019 to take up the role as Director of Operations.

This has been one of the hardest decisions of my life and one which I have agonised over for many weeks.

My experience with the CBR BRAVE was amazing. I was welcomed in and treated like family.  I have made some lifetime friends and forged connections that I hope will last forever.

Winning the 2018 Goodall Cup was one of the best experiences I have ever had. I was so humbled and proud to have played my part in bringing you the championship you so deserved.

As you know, I am based in Melbourne and it was difficult to contribute to the BRAVE to the extent I wanted. I have been speaking with Jamie Wilson over the past few weeks and he has given me his blessing and support to return to the Ice and contribute to hockey in my home city. This has helped ease my anxiety in regard to the decision, which I know is the best one for my family.

I wanted to personally thank PC, Jamie, Warren, Rob Starke and the coaching staff, the playing group, fans, volunteers, sponsors and everyone involved in the BRAVE – this club will always be part of me.

My decision to return to the Ice will never take away from my admiration, connection and passion for the CBR BRAVE and what you have all created. This club has so much spirit and camaraderie and I am proud to have been a part of it.

Jamie Wilson said, “Johan was an enormous part of our success last year and we will always be appreciative of his contribution to the BRAVE. I know he was very emotional about this decision and it wasn’t an easy one. He has our blessing and support and will always have our friendship. Johan is a wonderful human and one of the most selfless individuals I have ever met. He will be a real asset to the Ice and I know he is going to do an amazing job back there rebuilding the organisation. On behalf of the entire CBR BRAVE franchise I’d like to thank Johan for his efforts in the 2018 season and ask the BRAVE community to do the same”.

Statement Ends.
