Alex ‘Tets’ Tetreault has continued to impress throughout 2024, finding his form and an average SV % of .890 across 19 games - his biggest games played season to date, with more to come.  A beloved member of the team, by teammates and fans alike, Tets appears to have solidified his position in the team, with his teammates and as an inspiration to the next generation of goaltenders coming through the ACT ice hockey scene.

VOICES OF THE SEASON
The relationships developed within the team are ones that can only be described as resembling a brotherhood.  When asked who has found their voice in the locker room this season, Tets notes, “Picking one person is tough. Everyone finds their way to contribute on and off the ice and it hasn’t just been one voice this year.  What’s special is we have so many guys who are willing to step up, even younger guys like Henry and Charlie, they are massive leaders in their own right and are great at doing their part.  Kai, Tyler Kubara (and co-Kubara’s) are natural leaders, and the imports play a large role as well, it’s honestly a collective effort.”

NEW OPPORTUNITIES
Although we faced some challenges at the start of the season, opportunities presented themselves for other players to prove their abilities as players, leaders and friends.

“I think it allowed guys the chance to step up who don’t usually have the opportunity.  I even told Coach Stu that I wanted to play a larger role as a leader this year - and with a few key players that were away for world championships early on in the season, an opportunity presented itself to step up on the ice and in the locker room.  A lot of guys came out of their shell, I think we had some really positive learning experiences from the change in roster despite the results.”

THE RACE TO FINALS
When asked about how he is preparing for the increased pressure during the push to finals, Tets reflects, “I think we are in a really good spot, individually and collectively as a group. Having a shaky start to the season and facing a lot of adversity early on, that as a club we have never really faced, has been a good thing.  It’s hard to see from the outside but in other seasons when we got to finals or big games it was tough to get over hurdles because we hadn’t had those challenges or faced adversity before to prepare us.  Now, because we dealt with it early on, we are actually just having a lot of fun."

"Personally, I see each game as training and prepping for finals. With Clark coming in, he was the final piece to the puzzle, we have such a good group of guys, and we have a great time.  If we can keep up those good vibes, we simply build our own momentum and don’t really feel any added pressure.  Losing conference games is hard but we use it as a tool. Last year in the final we just couldn’t get the puck in the net, but we hadn’t faced that kind of game in the regular season, now we’ve had those moments early on in the season, we can use that as a tool and a building block to know how to prepare and work towards finals.”

THE DYNAMIC DUO
Tets’ relationship with goaltender Aleksi Toivonen is one full of support for each other’s success. “I’d like to say we bring out the best in each other at the helm of Peter Di Salvo, our goaltending coach. He’s incredible and I don’t think he gets enough credit for the time and dedication he puts into Aleksi and I.  He has quite simply restructured and revitalised the way we play the game.  We have a partnership but it’s a competitive environment.  We both always want to start in net and be out there, but we also support each other when the other guy gets the nod, it’s not a dig at each other, we’re just both competitors and both want to win.”

"Starting the season with Aleksi away on the national team for World Championships was a new challenge and opportunity to develop for Tets.  “Up until 2022 I was only playing about 5 games a season, but you ask any goalie and once they start playing more and get into a consistent routine, the stress of not performing goes away."

"I think it helped my physical and mental game a lot. It’s hard to admit at the time but it’s a lot of games to play back-to-back, although, I had fun with it - and I think it’s added more experience and depth to my game.  Now it’s about being the best we can be as a goalie duo, supporting each other and reserving our energy, we both want to push towards to finals and lift the Goodall cup again for Canberra.”
