With the 2022 AIHL season fast approaching, we caught up with Kai Miettinen to find out how things are progressing..
Happy to be back with the Brave?
I’m pumped to be back playing for the Brave this season. Canberra is my home and I have a lot of pride in putting the Brave jersey on. I wouldn't want to be anywhere else.
How is the pre-season going at the moment? What routine does the team currently have - how often are you training?
Pre-season is definitely ramping up now. I won't lie, being back with the team in the gym and on the ice for 2 sessions each per week has been a shock to the system after a long break. However, we're all excited to be back and it's definitely starting to feel like we've got a proper season ahead of us now - that's something which I'm sure everyone can get excited about.
How is the team looking? Anyone standing out in Training at the moment?
The team is coming together nicely. If I was to pick one guy who's impressed me in training it would have to be Nick Christensen. I'm anticipating he'll have a huge season for us this year and I'm looking forward to seeing him take on a much bigger role for us than he's had in the past. Definitely one to watch.
What does playing for the Goodall Cup this year mean to yourself and the team?
Having the opportunity to play for the Goodall Cup again this season is exciting because you have the chance to get your name inscribed on one of the oldest trophies in Ice Hockey in the World. Regardless if you've won it before, I don't see it taking away any desire to lift that trophy over your head again. It's a feeling I'll never forget and I'm determined to experience it again this season. We have a few guys on our team this season that haven't won the cup before and if playing for the cup for ourselves, our club and our fans wasn't enough, doing it for our teammates that haven't had their moment in history will definitely be a driving force for us this season.
Any message for Brave Fans before the start of the season?
My message to the legendary Brave fans; Dust off those jerseys, restock your face paint, dig out your scarf and beanie because we've got a massive season ahead of us in 2022. The Brave is back and better than ever and we're looking forward to seeing you all at the Brave Cave. Can't tell you all enough how much your support means to myself and the team. The time is almost here to get amongst it and let's do that hockey!!
The CBR Brave’s quest for the Goodall Cup begins this weekend - with back-to-back (Saturday/Sunday) away games against the Melbourne Ice at the O’Brien Icehouse. These games - and all other Brave Away games - will be shown on the big screens at Caribou Kingston. Make sure you get down to Caribou, to catch up with other Brave fans and cheer on the team!!
Our first home game is on Saturday May 8, against the Sydney Ice Dogs.
