2020 AIHL Season Update
Thursday, June 4, 2020 - Submitted by Brave Staff Writers

The Australian Ice Hockey League (AIHL) have provided the wider ice hockey community with an update, following recent discussions around COVID-19 and the implications on the 2020 AIHL season. As it stands, the 2020 AIHL season remains on hold, however, with decreasing COVID-19 cases and a relaxing of some restrictions, the league is discussing various possibilities and formats, with a prospective season/competition that could flow late into the year.

The Brave have been advised by the AIHL Commissioner, David Turik, that there will be a ‘Return to Play’ committee to be formed over the next week, to discuss the potential of a possible season/competition this year. CBR Brave General Manager, Sunny Singh will represent the Brave on the committee and is encouraged by the latest developments from the league.

“It’s nice to have a little optimism in the hockey community, even if it is just a little glimmer of hope for now. There is a hell of a lot that needs to happen, and a lot of things to go right, for something to go ahead, but it’s important for the community to know that we certainly haven’t given up on seeing the boys back out there just yet.” Singh advised.

“We’ve got a great group of people at each of the clubs leading the discussion and making sure that any decisions made are in the best interests of the player’s health, as well as the financial sustainability of each club. Most importantly though, we won’t be rushing something through for the sake of getting back on the ice, but we’re going to do everything we can to try to make it happen.”

One positive out of the enforced break has been the opportunity for renovation at the Brave Cave. Phillip Ice Skating Centre is taking advantage of the downtime to perform some maintenance on the surface, ensuring that it’ll be in top shape for the return of the Brave.

The Brave will continue to provide updates via social media and our website as news comes to hand.
