Ace Goaltender - with Aleksi Toivonen
Friday, September 9, 2022 - Submitted by Scott Stevenson

After the excitement of last weekend’s Finals, Q&As are back - and today we speak with the one half of our ace Goaltending duo, Aleksi Toivonen..

Congratulations on your play this year! How do see the team’s performances?
The team work on game days and behind the scenes has been better each week which has resulted in our success. It has also been great to see more locals getting ice time this season.

It’s been fantastic to see you back in Brave colours this year! What brought you back to Canberra?
I came back this year due to work commitments and my partner and her family living here.

You’ve spent time playing for teams in Finland. How is the game of Hockey different between here and Finland?
Yeah I spent my entire youth in Finland playing hockey until age 19. Hockey in Finland is very different to Australia. It's definitely more competitive and intense.

You have formed a very potent Goaltending duo with Alex Tetreault this year. How much do you and Alex work together at Training and during games?
This year our goalie duo has been great. Alex and I have been working together both on and off the ice and have been pushing each other to perform better, we definitely have some healthy competition. We spend about 3 training sessions a week together and have been fortunate enough to have a goalie coach this season which has sparked on-going conversations for further improvement.

Do you have any message you’d like to give to the Brave Fans?
Their ongoing support has been great over the years, it never goes unnoticed!

The CBR Brave will be officially welcoming the Goodall Cup to Canberra with a function next Sunday (18 September) at Caribou in Kingston. The day kicks off at 12noon - and runs through until 5pm. We hope to see you there!

 Go Brave!
