The CBR BRAVE is delighted to announce the signing of former Perth Thunder defenseman Per Daniel Goransson.
A physical defenseman with a strong and aggressive game, Goransson brings experience and leadership to the BRAVE as they look to avenge the past two-seasons second place finishes.
Born in Stockholm, Sweden, Goransson started skating from an early age, playing professional hockey for Hammarby IF before taking a break from the game due to injuries to move to Perth in 2011 where he completed a Bachelor of Sports Management and Marketing at Edith Cowan University.
After two successful seasons playing with the Perth Thunder, Goransson finished fourth in the team’s scoring last season amassing twenty-two from as many games.
Having lived in Perth for six years, Goransson felt the time was right to explore new career opportunities, but admitted the idea of moving again, across the other side of the country, wasn’t an easy decision.
“I loved my six years in Perth and the Thunder are a great organisation, but it was time for me to see what else was available career wise. Professional development is really important to me and I knew that I’d have to move East to pursue work in sports management, marketing and media”, said Goransson.
Perth General Manager Stan Scott was instrumental in helping Goransson head east and encouraged a conversation with the BRAVE and Coordinate to see if there would be a fit.
After a few conversations with Jamie Wilson and Warren Apps, the Directors of Coordinate and the BRAVE respectively, Goransson was offered a position of Communications Manager working across both organisations.
Goransson says, “I didn’t know much about Canberra at all. I missed the Canberra trip last year with injury, so I was a bit hesitant at first. The guys gave me the opportunity to fly over for a weekend in December and have a chat and tour of the city and I was super surprised how great Canberra is”.
“Leaving Perth was very hard, I’m not going to lie. But I was really excited by the opportunity to work for the BRAVE and Coordinate and play with a great bunch of guys”.
“I’ve heard great things about the BRAVE and obviously management are motivated to develop the best structure, culture and organisation available, and I am looking forward to contributing to the success both on and off the ice”.
The signing of Goransson comes at a vital time for the BRAVE as they seek to build on their success from previous seasons and challenge for their first Goodall Cup in 2018. With long term injury to veteran Mark Rummakainen, Goransson will be a vital part of the BRAVE’s defensive structure.
“I’m looking forward to learning under Rob Starke and do my best helping the BRAVE to go to the next level. I am hungry to put it all out there, put my body on the line, and win one for the Canberra fans”, Goransson said.
