Player announcement: Channing Bresciani

April 11, 2018

The CBR Brave are delighted to announce the signing of stalwart defenseman Channing Bresciani from the USports University of Manitoba Bisons.

The Winnipeg native started skating at the age of two on a rink that his dad made in their backyard each year, and at the age of four, started playing recreational hockey.

Channing has played for the Winnipeg Wild (2008-2010) where he won the Manitoba AAA Midget Hockey League in 08/09, the Winnipeg Blues (2010-2014) where he captained the Blues to the 13/14 Turnbull Cup in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League and most recently with the University of Manitoba Bisons (2014-2018).

During his time with the Bisons, Bresciani played 107 games and posted 44 points, whilst also serving as an alternate captain for the 17/18 season.

When asked about his favorite hockey memory, Channing spoke about his final season with the Winnipeg Blues in 2014. “We finished second last in our division and were expected to lose the nation ranked #2 Selkirk Steelers in the first round”. He continued “We ended up beating them in game 5 out of a 7 game series. We then rallied to beat our next two opponents to win the MJHL championship. It was my last year and I was the captain so it was very impactful.”

When talking about what made Channing decide to come to Australia and more importantly, sign with the Brave, he spoke about the opportunity to explore and experience life outside of Canada.

“I can’t wait to explore the city, and the entirety of Australia. Everything is so much different than Canada and it will be very cool to experience everything, especially experiencing it as a Brave”. “What especially attracted me to the CBR Brave was the city of Canberra. I have heard so many amazing things about Canberra and Australia in general”

The addition of Channing Bresciani is another feather in the cap for the CBR Brave as they continue to bolster their defensive stocks ahead of season 2018.

On his views of the Brave and what he can bring to the team, Bresciani said “The Brave coaches and resource staff have done so much to accommodate me in this quick transition as well. I have nothing but good things to say about the opportunity I have been given by the Brave and the city of Canberra. My goal entering the Brave’s organization is to bring whatever I can to help the team win games. If it’s playing defensive, offensive or being a leader, I plan on stepping into any role they need me in”
